Grandma has never been so cool. Consumers are embracing all kinds of cooking, decorating, fashion and activities that grandmas have known and loved for years. Now’s the time for retailers to champion some of the nostalgia, vintage vibes and analog activities that consumers are craving.

More Than the Butter Dish

Some might say it started with the coastal grandma aesthetic. Others are fixated on the darling of the moment — the butter dish. But today’s grandma-inspired movement isn’t isolated to one object or one specific design style. And most agree that the youngest generations are fueling the movement.

“Pieces that feel rich in history and unique help to offset what has become a fast-paced, digitally saturated world and “throwaway” culture,” according to Gifts and Decorative Accessories. “Pop culture is also aiding the desire, with popular shows and movies like ‘Bridgerton,’ ‘Wuthering Heights’ and ‘Downton Abbey’ capturing young hearts with both its love stories and highlights of lavish, historical table settings and décor.”

Analog Activities

But it’s not just about décor that looks like grandma might have. Young consumers are also gravitating to analog activities that represent older, simpler times. There’s increasing interest in farm or rural life and activities such as sewing, baking and old-school games like mahjong.

In fact, an old-fashioned letter-writing renaissance is one of the top trends Pinterest is predicting for 2026. (“Think elaborate envelopes, special stationary and so.many stamps,” they say.) Preparing old-school casseroles are even back in vogue. (According to Tasting Table, “It appears your grandma was really onto something back then.”)

In the Kitchen

The kitchen seems to be the room getting the most attention so far. According to Pinterest’s Spring 2026 Report, searches for “grandma core kitchen” are up 545%.

To meet the need, consider kitchen items like VQ’s Laura Ashley Kitchen Storage – which feel timeless and like grandma’s house at the same time – or decorative textiles like this Ecologie cross-stich hand towel by Danica. The NuRetro line of digital kitchen appliances from Salton combines yesterday’s charm with modern technology, and Frieling’s retro kitchen timers combine fun and function.

Vintage Vibes Can be Anywhere

But vintage vibes can be enjoyed anywhere. Retailers should be creative when thinking about what grandma-approved style and lifestyle activities might appeal to customers in the coming year.

After all, who — other than Pinterest — would have predicted one of the hottest menswear trends of the year? “In 2026, Boomer and Millennial men will punctuate their fits with vintage pins, crystal clip-ons and heirloom brooches,” according to Pinterest Predicts 2026, “It’s part homage, part reinvention. If your grandma wouldn’t wear it, is it even the vibe?”

Consider in-store experiences or other products that channel old-fashioned style and good times. Just a few examples on the product side? The Country Picnic Basket from Picnic Time Family of Brands and the Retro Mini – Portable Radio & Bluetooth Speaker from VQ for any room in the house.
